Overview
The Cimatti City Bike is an Italian-made pedal moped powered by a Minarelli engine, a staple in the vintage moped world. Known for its simplicity and tunability, the original Minarelli V1 motor was a favorite of enthusiasts. For this build, we’ve gone a step further, upgrading the motor to the more robust 1986 Minarelli V1P, which brings significant improvements in performance, durability, and rideability.
Upgrades and Features
Engine Swap:
- Replaced the original 1975 brass bushing stub plane V1 motor with a 1986 Minarelli V1P engine.
- Key Engine Upgrades:
- Larger intake flange (increased from 12.5mm to 14.0mm for improved airflow).
- Transition from piston pin bushing to a needle bearing, enhancing durability and resistance to oil starvation.
- Cast iron cylinder with improved cooling via a larger square head design.

Carburetor and Exhaust:
- Fitted with a brand-new Dell’Orto 15mm SHA carburetor for smoother throttle response and enhanced fuel delivery.
- Minarelli EV Racing Mamba exhaust installed for improved exhaust flow and a performance boost. This exhaust system adds a sporty tone and complements the engine’s increased output.
Transmission and Drivetrain:
- New clutch springs for responsive power delivery.
- Updated starter plate and starter leaf springs to improve reliability during starts.
- Installed a brand-new drive chain for smooth and consistent power transfer.
Suspension and Ride Quality:
- New shocks, installed during a prior restoration, offer improved ride comfort and handling.
Tires and Brakes:
- Equipped with new tires and tubes for reliable grip and a safer ride.
- Refreshed braking system ensures dependable stopping power.

- New seat, grips, and cosmetic details to elevate aesthetics and comfort.

Condition and Recent Service
This Cimatti City Bike has undergone a comprehensive restoration process. A few years ago, we serviced it for a customer, replacing key components such as the tires, tubes, seat, grips, and shocks. After changing hands and coming back to us on trade, we took the opportunity to bring it to the next level with the motor upgrade and performance enhancements detailed above.
Our team also performed a thorough tune-up, including carb tuning, clutch adjustments, and a detailed inspection to ensure the bike runs as strong as it looks. The moped accelerates briskly, pedals smoothly, and offers a thrilling ride with its updated powertrain. A final detailing job is currently underway to make sure the moped looks as good as it performs.
