Offered for sale at Detroit Moped Works is this remarkably well-preserved 1978 Puch Magnum XK with just 2,489 original miles.
The Magnum XK was built for riders who wanted something more substantial than the bicycle-style mopeds commonly sold during the 1970s. Its top-mounted fuel tank, long motorcycle-style seat, cast wheels, hydraulic-looking front fork, and larger overall presence helped establish a design that remains iconic nearly 50 years later.
This particular Magnum’s appeal is its originality.
It has not been transformed into a modern performance build, repainted in a new color scheme, or assembled from a collection of mismatched aftermarket parts. It is an increasingly difficult-to-find original survivor with remarkably low mileage and the authentic appearance that made these bikes so desirable in the first place.

WHY THE MAGNUM MATTERS
The Puch Magnum has become one of the defining vintage mopeds of the American moped era. Its substantial frame and miniature-motorcycle styling made it different from nearly everything else available at the time.
That popularity also means many surviving Magnums have been heavily modified, repainted, raced, or separated into parts. An original, complete example with fewer than 2,500 miles is becoming considerably harder to find.
This bike would make an excellent addition to a serious Puch collection, but it is also a great choice for someone who simply wants to own and enjoy one of the most recognizable vintage mopeds ever produced.
CONDITION
This is an original vintage survivor—not a brand-new motorcycle or a flawless museum restoration. It retains the honest cosmetic character expected from a machine built in 1978.
Please examine all photos closely. They are intended to provide the most accurate representation of its paint, chrome, decals, finishes, and overall cosmetic condition.
As with any nearly 50-year-old vehicle, future ownership will involve normal vintage-moped maintenance and occasional adjustment. Detroit Moped Works can explain the bike’s operation, care, starting procedure, and recommended maintenance at pickup.

This Magnum is available for purchase directly through our website. Once purchased, it will be held safely at Detroit Moped Works until pickup or transportation is arranged.
Local delivery is available starting at $100.

Michigan buyers are responsible for applicable tax, title, registration, and plate costs through the Michigan Secretary of State.
